The Pacific Row 2024. An adventure not for the light-hearted.
A row challenge with a united charity goal
Adventure seekers, endurance challenge junkies and ordinary everyday folk, whatever the character, those now in the middle of the Pacific, taking on the Pacific Row, have a common goal uniting them. All of the teams and solo rowers want to raise awareness and funds for special charities and causes close to their hearts.
The 2024 Pacific Row Challenge, from The World’s Toughest Row, set off from Monterey California on June the 8th. With the first trailblazing boats due to arrive in Hawaii before the end of July, one thing we know is that it will be a mind-blowing, muscle-burning and heart-pounding event
battling Waves taller than a house
Imagine rowing 2,400 miles across the vast, unpredictable Pacific Ocean, some days battling waves taller than houses and other days rowing hard just to stay still. These incredible rowers are pushing their limits day in and day out. Sounds crazy, right? Well, that’s exactly why it’s called the world’s toughest row, alongside it’s Atlantic sister!
Aside from being a test of physical endurance; it’s a journey that will test your mental grit, teamwork, and pure determination. It’s one of the worlds ultimate showdowns against Mother Nature, and the rowers need every ounce of preparation they can get.
training preparation at seasports southwest
Which is why, here at SeaSports Southwest, we created a specific course for The Pacific Row, covering all the shore based training requirements, to get the teams and solo rowers shipshape and ready for action!
They will be rowing in shifts, whether a solo rower or a team, often on little sleep, navigating through one of the most remote and challenging environments on Earth. There’s no support boat trailing behind; once you’re out there, it’s just you, your boat, and the ocean. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s scary and it’s absolutely exhilarating.
Tim and Sue stay in contact with many of the teams who train at SeaSports throughout the race and beyond, with some individuals returning for training for a second and third time as they take on the challenge as veterans with a different team or facing a different ocean!
