an oarsome time!

“Some things don’t change and never will: Our commitment to our customers and our dedication to be the best”

Our journey since 2007 (when our dream of SeaSports Southwest became reality) has been an eventful and challenging one; we have experienced so much – joy, fear, pride – but never regret.

Early days; in the summer of 2007 with a gazebo on Teignmouth beach: A few kayaks available for hire a secondhand rib and a shed load of ambition and plans. Over the winter of 2007 we worked hard, we converted the Vinnicombe wine store (a concrete grey box with no windows and an old staircase at the back of the building) into something resembling the building SeaSports operated from until 2024. We gained RYA recognition and AALA licence. Over the next few years we added two more buildings, doubled the size of the dinghy and windsurf fleet, added the trots on the back beach and the mooring for the rib. We bought more safety boats, paddleboards, added Jet skis to the fleet and continually upgraded our kit.

Over the years things changed; our RIB became an 8 metre coded boat to teach powerboating up to advance and advanced instructor level, Tim added to his qualifications and his skills are now in demand all over the world!

In 2012 we got involved in ocean rowing when we started working with Atlantic Campaigns and the World’s toughest row - Atlantic challenge. We have worked hard and invested to become the best, and now teach most of the teams taking part in the Atlantic and Pacific races, including many race winners.

In 2024 we took the leap to dedicate our time and focus to the specialist ocean rowing shore based training, alongside other shore based courses, for which we have such a passion and have become renowned for. This meant making the tough decision to close our watersports centre, as we chose to run the ocean rowing courses residentially. We own two fabulously spacious holiday homes in Teignmouth and have various other locations which are perfect for running the courses.

Some things don’t change and never will: Our commitment to our customers, our dedication to be the best. We don’t cut corners or make do. Our instructors, kit and our work ethic; there is no compromise; we always go the extra mile to ensure that everyone has the best time possible. And that’s our promise, whether you are here for a week-long course or for a few hours.

The love and pride we feel for Teignmouth; we never forget how lucky we are to live and work in this honest and very beautiful corner of the world.

Now we look forward to sharing all of this with you.
