DURATION: 10 hours
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Phonetic Alphabet knowledge, passport-sized photo, and 3 hours home study from the handbook provided. Students are also encouraged to try the taster course on the RYA website.
ABILITY AT COURSE END: The certificate holder is authorised to use a marine VHF radio with digital selective calling onboard a British vessel fitted with radio equipment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: RYA Short Range Certificate marine radio course will authorise the holder to use a marine VHF radio with digital selective calling onboard a British vessel fitted with radio equipment. The course will cover issuing and responding to Mayday alerts as well as other vital information to help keep you safe afloat.
A ten-hour course including three hours of home study prior to the course using the handbook included and provided at the time of booking your course. The course will be taught and examined using radio simulators.
The final exam (required for licence) must be taken at the SeaSports Southwest Centre, which includes a short written test, and a practical assessment and is run by a separate assessor.
There is a charge of £60 payable to the RYA for the Exam and license in addition to the course cost.
Exams may be booked and at the same time as the classroom course or on a separate date when SeaSports is running an exam day. Exams are taken in groups of no more than 4 students.
